It’s going to take you 15 hours of yoga to burn that off.

Yoga classes are fun, and so are the instructors.

Spending an hour and thirty minutes in a Yoga class can be the ultimate way to relax and let go off the stresses. It is just not the same on days when you are not in the mood to give your best, and your instructor catches you slacking with the Yoga poses and says: Move!

“But, I don’t want to do Yoga today!”

One of these days, when you are not in the mood to do Yoga and you have dragged yourself to class for that one hour of torture, that is the day your instructor will follow you like flies follow honey. To tell you the truth, it seems Yoga instructors enjoy this part the most; when you are least interested and positive about the class, they call out those so-called negatively reinforcing sentences:

“Do you see that bulge in your tummy and low energy level? You’ve eaten so much this weekend, and by the looks of it, it is going to take you another fifteen hours of Yoga to burn that off.”

Seriously, why do Yoga instructors do that? If you are way in the other corner of the room amongst fifteen other students excited and thrilled about the class, how come (s)he notices you slacking in the corner, and will call you out and say, “Hey, *insert your name here* Move!” Post that instant, you either feel good — or worse (since you were already feeling bad).

What happens after the shout-out?

In case you start feeling good, and take the shout-out positively, the remaining session will be great — happy, exciting, positive and full of energy. However, if it goes from bad to worse — then Lord help you (this does not obviously apply if you are an atheist)! The remaining session can be a massive torture — with your maximum effort going into stretching poses, when all you want to do is go into Child’s Pose and relax.

Yes, relax and possibly even doze off — that is possible. It is okay if it happens once in a while. However, frequent recurrences of such an episode do indicate that you may need to visit a doctor and not a Yoga instructor.

Yoga is supposed to do you good, not bad — and if it does not do you well, then the problem is not with Yoga, it is something else.

Let us be fair, it does do you good at times!

Okay, you do not feel like doing it because you are tired, exhausted, have heaps of work load, you planned a vacation that did not work out, your mother-in-law just landed on your doorstep as a Thanksgiving surprise, and the list of nonsensical and lame excuses goes on and on.

But hello there — Yoga is also exercise, and exercise is always good. It is good for your health, your mental well-being, and is the perfect solution to get rid of stress. So the next time your mother-in-law (that is if you have one) lands on your place to surprise you, you will not have to force a smile — it will most definitely come from the heart (a sign of healthy mind and body).

It is the attitude that matters!

Yoga is not just exercise and meditation, it is an investment – you invest in yourself and get good health in return. You turn out more confident, and are able to achieve a better work-life balance. When you step into the class with a can-do attitude, it is more fun — and it is even more motivating when you look at the clock ticking away, leading to the end of the session. You sweat, you stretch and you lose the bulge.

You pay to get moving, and Yoga is worth every penny spent!

Your instructor is not your foe. (S)he only says out your name loud (okay, yells — if that is what makes you feel better), because (s)he wants you to work away some stuff before you feel relaxed and can meditate to the maximum. Let go of your ego and practice Yoga. Get comfortable in your body.

The person next to you is skinny — but (s)he is skinny now, you probably did not see her two years back, and (s)he might have been different back then. So instead of getting depressed, get motivated and Get Moving! It is worth it.

So when the next time your instructor says “Hey! Get moving!” or “Hey, Move!”, do not get infuriated. (S)he is doing it for your own good! Yoga can be a fun and relaxing way to keep stress at bay and is also great to keep healthy — it keeps you away from the doctor. Yes, an apple a day does that too, but you can count on Yoga to do so as well.

Doing Yoga is just splendid. Some instructors offer group classes along with daycare facilities even for stay-at-home moms, so that leaves no room for excuses.

Get up now and get moving!
