Come Closer.
By Nishita Gupta
Undress me.
Peel off my defenses,
layer by layer.
Use your hands on me.
Make my body your canvas.
Draw what you want.
Splash all the paints you have.
Let’s make something abstract.
Or just sketch an outline
and shade me with your love.
Go under my skin now.
Use your lips now and paint me.
Let my goosebumps
add to your artwork.
Wash it all off now.
Come close. Hold me close.
Take the band off my hair, let them lose.
Let them touch you and leave a sense
of presence even when they don’t.
Put that pillow on the bed.
Lay me down,
Join me.
Put my hair behind my ear so you can
whisper what you see on the roof.
That’s always been our portal to the future.
Don’t make me laugh,
my flesh shakes,
like ripples in a water body.
Or let this water wash
what you couldn’t.
Calm me down.
Kiss me.
Not just my lips,
but my soul.
Take off your shirt.
Let me use my brush now.
Don’t stop me.
Stay!
Don’t smirk.
Let me use my hands
and my lips on your chest.
I like to lay my head on your mountains,
but today I’ll climb them.
Don’t touch mine.
Your hands in the air!
Now, behind your head.
Be a prisoner in my world.
You’re not my canvas.
You’re my slave.
No.
You’re the path I take
to travel through the jungle of life,
safely, successfully.
You’re wild.
Your boards read,
“No Humans Allowed.“
Let me put them on the entrance.
Let me be your Tarzan.
Help me scare everyone else off!
And promise you’ll be with me forever.
I’ll swing on the branches of your parts.
I’ll caress them.
I won’t cut, I won’t harm.
But I’ll bite.
Enough of that smirk!
Leave it.
I’ll hide my face under the pillow and sleep.
Touch me, touch-me-not.
Kiss-me-not.
Kiss me.
Don’t rub my cheeks too hard.
It’s not your paint.
They’ve turned crimson.
Don’t smirk.
Get behind the wall
of my doubts and insecurities.
Keep your hand on my heart,
Count my heartbeats.
Read me. Eat me. Breathe me in.
Merge my being with yours.
