7 Seductive Traits of Mermaid Women.

The Mermaid Archetype is awakening in the world today.

The wild, seductive, freedom-craving Mermaid represents the feminine power of water — strong, nurturing, loving, pleasure-seeking and beautiful, yet at the same time untamable, fierce and shockingly independent. She is a shapeshifter, tempestuous and seductive, representing both the loving abundant aspects of the ocean and the raw titanic power of the seas and currents.

As our culture finally begins to allow women to explore and express ourselves and our truth for the first time in millennia, some of us are uncovering a wild mermaid spirit in the depths of our soul.

More and more mermaid women are coming out of hiding — women who identify with the mermaid archetype so strongly they almost feel that they could be a mermaid in disguise.

Do you think your soul might run on mermaid energy? Check out the seven traits of mermaid women below and see if you find yourself in the truth of the Mermaid.

1. Run on passion.

The mermaid woman is an emotional being — she instinctively interacts with the world through her feelings and her intuition. She feels emotions with her whole being. She does everything with her whole heart — she doesn’t know another way!

The challenge of mermaid women is to know that their emotionality and passion are a strength and power rather than a weakness, to love and accept their full range of feelings and emotions.

With the strength of her powerful emotions, a mermaid woman is drawn into the deepest, most sacred experience of the world around her. She loves with all she has, she reacts in bliss to the beauty of a sunset, she cherishes the touch of soft cashmere on their skin, she remembers the exact moment she fell in love for the first time.

Other humans may read her powerful feelings as overwhelming or too intense, and may not be able to handle the strength of her feelings, be it love, or fear, or anger. Mermaids are the very spirit of the powerful ocean, and can be overwhelming and intense at times.

2. Rebellious spirit.

Mermaids despise limitation and crave freedom, and feel oppressed and confused in a world that is constantly telling them what they can and cannot be, what they should and should not become. Mermaid women often have a rebellious spirit — they do not want to do what everyone else does.

Mermaid women often pick offbeat careers and choose unusual lifestyles. Their career is often lead by their passion and feeling, rather than being sensible. Their visionary and fiercely independent nature lends well to entrepreneurial careers, spiritual paths and ways of life that their family circle often think of as quirky, strange, or not respectable.

Mermaid women are not interested in the grind, and are disgusted with the way that the other humans work themselves to death, failing to look inward and discover their true desires and passions. They need to spend their life’s work doing something they care about, and often mermaids trapped in the system of passionless work feel as if they are suffocating.

3. Sacred introversion.

If you are a mermaid woman, it is likely that a large part of you is turned inwards. You want to discover and understand the secrets your soul hides deep within. You are obsessed with distilling your own truth and creating from clear waters.

Mermaid women have an intense relationship with their inner landscape. They are fascinated with the play of their feelings, and love to study their deepest thoughts and secretive desires.

They often keep journals, as a way to express, study and understand their inner worlds, or feel physically required to express themselves in one way or another — perhaps through art, or movement, or though frequent intimate conversations with their friends, peeling back the layers to learn what is beneath, what is true, what is really desired.

4. Gorgeous paradox.

If you are a mermaid woman, you might be… a little confusing. You can be one thing, yet at the same time, be its complete opposite. You could be sweet and childlike, but wise and queenly at the same time. Ravishingly sexual, yet pure and innocent. Extroverted and introverted.

None of these aspects is more true than another. As shapeshifters, mermaids can hold two or more contradicting emotions or beliefs at once, with ease.

The challenge mermaid women face is embracing their multi-faceted beauty and their many, equally true versions of themselves, in a culture that demands that there is only ever one correct answer, one right way, one version of being authentic.

5. Beauty devotees.

Mermaids crave beauty. They see beauty as the highest path to the Divine, and wish to devour it, to drink it in fully, to drown themselves in beauty and elegance. They are captivated by the beauty and subtle fragrance of a flower, by the delicate arch in a ballet dancer’s pointe, by the last light of the day as it falls upon the sea.

Beauty speaks to mermaid women’s deep feelings and emotions, connecting them with all that is wonderful about being incarnated in the world.

Rather than being disciples of transcendence, mermaid women are so connected with the beauty in this world, have such a need to fill their soul with it, to experience the gorgeousness of the world they live in, that their path to spiritual bliss is often through earth-loving religions and spirituality.

6. Pleasure-seekers.

If you are a mermaid woman, you may know something that most human women don’t — that pleasure is sacrosanct. Mermaid women are incredibly sensual beings, rooted in their bodies and their experience in the physical world. They crave pleasure and luxuriance, sometimes at the cost of all other things if their wild mermaid nature is allowed to run unchecked.

This exquisite sensuality often alarms and fascinates the humans around them in equal measure.

You can’t force a mermaid woman to do what she doesn’t want to do, or motivate her by fear and scarcity. You can only tempt and seduce her by offering something she desires.

Often, mermaid women have a secret, forbidden belief that luxuriance is their birthright, and that they should be able to lounge on the beach on a bed of sweet jasmine, sipping exotic cocktails, and enjoying the delicious feeling of the sun on their skin while everything they need is drawn effortlessly towards them.

There is often a huge disconnect when the mermaid realizes that the human world doesn’t support this world view, and the mermaid woman feels further pain and frustration as she isn’t shown how to integrate her sensual mermaid nature with the world around her.

Luckily for the mermaid women, if they can give themselves permission and open up to it, they have the potential to be unbelievable manifestors.

7. Sensitive.

If you are a mermaid woman, there is a strong chance that your sensitive, emotional nature is often overwhelmed by current events and human drama.

Things that other humans can take in their stride may shake a mermaid woman to her core. Images of cruelty and acts of barbarism — be it an act of unforgivable animal cruelty, the realities of war in the Middle East, or simply a violent sexual scene on Game of Thrones — can throw a mermaid woman off.

It’s hard to see this sensitivity as a positive, especially when the human world regards it as weak. Mermaid women have to remember that their sensitive nature is the gift that the human world needs but doesn’t want. It requires people to wake up and see the horrific cruel things that they have grown accustomed to.

These traits are familiar to all mermaid women. However, not all mysterious mermaid women display these qualities boldly and openly. Some keep their true mermaid nature locked deep inside, feeling that they don’t have permission to express it.

Some traits may be locked in the shadow realm as these mermaids struggle to align their wild mermaid natures with the world around them — to align their need to be passionate with their dead-end job, hiding their sensitivity to keep other people happy, and trying to survive in a world that often does not seem ready for the powerful feminine qualities that the mermaid woman holds inside.

Historically, the Mermaid Archetype is everything that has been denied and demonized about women: their sexuality, their sensuality, their independence, their feelings, their power. Mermaid women today are healing those ancient wounds so that they can stand strong as powerful, feminine forces in the world.

By standing up in their true nature, mermaid women give other women permission to indulge in beauty, to aspire to sensuality and pleasure, to approve of their emotions, to truly know themselves.

Mermaid women are rising again — these powerful, sensual women who wield the power of desire, the taste of beauty, and the gift of emotion.
