Choose to Be Happy, Stop Waiting for It.

Be right here. In this moment. Anything else just takes you out of creating – not finding – peace in the current moment.

Instead of waiting for it to happen to you, instead of creating it for yourself. It’s a choice.

To be happy right now, and at peace with where you are in life, without waiting for whatever’s coming next to give you the rush of dopamine that tells you what you’re experiencing is positive. That’s why it’s so important to not just be grateful for what you’ve gone through, but to not dwell on the future with worry.

By practicing gratitude, we connect to our higher selves enough to see the karmic lessons in the things you grow through and move through things instead of sitting on them so much that you’re stuck in the past of who you used to be instead of who you are now. In that, you’re being grateful for how the things from the past have guided you to being the person who is where you are now.

Maybe even wiser for it, with a more profound sense of who you are and who you want to be, or what is and isn’t meant for you.

And being mindful to not dwell too much on the future brings this understanding and loving awareness that staring too much into the distance will stop you from appreciating the beauty of the life that’s in front of you right now. Choosing to be happy is part of breaking from the matrix of living life on autopilot.

It’s waking up, and knowing you’re the creator of your life, and you can break out of this mental trap you’ve been in.

Happiness is the loving awareness that if life were a book, there is beauty in appreciating every gripping page, not hoping for the climax, or thinking that you’ll be pleased with the book when it’s over. Or skipping to a different part because you’re in a bit of a slow chapter, or this particular chapter has a character you don’t like.

No, I don’t think that’s the point of life. The point is… experiencing this life as it unfolds for you. Just be. You’re right where you need to be.

I’ve had an amazing last couple days sitting with this moon cycle and reflecting on the year. Growth, death, letting go. Transformation. Rebirth. This was highlighted by me sitting down to do gratitude practice and suddenly being hit by a wave of clearing. This year’s been muddy, yes, but why do I still feel so dark? Why have I felt this resistance to being happy for a long time… like I don’t deserve it?

Of course I do. What am I thinking that is blocking myself from being happy right now? It’s just like putting it on a goalpost, blocking abundance, waiting to fall in love and resisting instead of surrendering. So, I looked around me and came up with a long journal page of why I’m genuinely happy with my life right now. I felt a big shift in this.

And I invite you to do this journal prompt: How can I be happy in my life right now without waiting for it?

Not next week, not when I get more clients, not after I move. Now. I’m happy with where my life is going and I’m done treating life like it’s a constant struggle, because there’s always going to be a storm. It’s not about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain and jump in the puddles.

See, being happy right now in this life cannot be something you wish for, or something you attach to anything like a milestone, a place, a promotion, achieving a goal, or weight loss. In the grand scope of life, it’s something you must decide for yourself that you’re happy with who you are, in the process, without waiting for anything to happen to you, and regardless of whatever storm is going on around you.

Because there’s always going to be a storm, it’s how you carry yourself that shifts your character.
