The Good Life.
Inherent goodness — most of us have it. We do not need religion, religious preachers, celebrities or political leaders to tell us how to live a life of goodness. It is already there.
“True religion is real living; living with all one’s soul, with all one’s goodness and righteousness.” ~ Albert Einstein
Goodness is a simmering flame that resides within. It is our own tender secret of knowing what is right and what is wrong. It allows us to make the good, the right, the humble and the honest choice.
Goodness is like having an eternal mother hen upon our shoulder pecking at us until we do the right thing and which then she becomes still again.
“Goodness is the only investment that never fails” ~ Henry Thoreau
We do not need to lay down our hearts, bare our souls, and pray for forgiveness in order to receive the gift of goodness. Goodness is already there. It may at times lay silent. Yet, in its quietness and dormancy, goodness remains. It is part of us. As the physical body ages, goodness does not. It is a gift that is with us until we depart this life. It is unconditional and it is free. It costs us nothing but gives back everything.
Goodness helps to create who we are. It gives us a conscience while giving us confidence. It guides us to do the right thing and reminds us when we do not. It asks of us to stay when we want to leave, to be kind rather than cruel, to give more than we receive and to listen more than we speak. The goodness within builds up, it does not tear down.
Treat those who are good with goodness, and also treat those who are not good with goodness. Thus goodness is attained ~ Lao Tzu
Goodness. No blame, no shame, it is there. Our parents or guardians may not have encouraged its use but it is and was always there. You know it. You feel it. We all do.
Are you still enough to recognize it? Are you quiet enough to hear it? Do you feel its nudge when you ignore it?
“The fragrance of flowers spreads only in the direction of the wind. But the goodness of a person spreads in all direction” ~ Chanakya
Feel it. Feel the goodness shine through. Feel it bleed through your heart and thunder through the body. Feel it enough so that your goodness radiates unto those in which it remains silent. Stir up the goodness in others. Like a wave crashing down, let the ripples carry the silent goodness in the world from one person to another.
