Privilege. {poetry}
What I need you to know
about me is that
this place I am in now
is suffocating
I never belonged here.
I couldn’t take a deep breath.
Now that I am back
the air is stale
with memories
that make me choke.
But I am learning to
breathe deeply again
anyway.
What you need to know
about me is that I am acutely aware
that life is a privilege.
My life is a privilege.
I want to share that privilege
with you.
I want you to understand that
I have had many sacred moments,
enough to taste the beauty
and know that it is out there,
waiting somewhere,
for me to claim it.
The beauty is woven into
everything.
Hope has been enough
to keep me going,
and I want to wolf it down,
and delicately savor it,
at the same time.
I want you to know
that I will do everything
in my power
to welcome love
while I sweep away the ashes
of that other time
in my life.
I will embrace life
Because living
is what I need to do.
