The Radical Road.
By Katherine Mullin
The Radical Road is calling me,
“Who, me?” I said, “Who, me?”
The radical road said, “Come, my friend, your path, a walk, a day, a night,”
“I’m shy,” I said, “I’m shy.”
“A people-pleasing soul?” she whispered.
“Yes, with a radical-reaching heart-led tale.”
I pleased and thought and pushed –
To pull those happy lucky times,
To hear this road call to me,
this life of mine intended be –
To someone who does what’s right by sitting on the fence.
“Don’t sit, jump down, come here,” she said, “Be brave, my little acorn.
We want your witness be and noted sights to say.”
“What will it be like?” I said, I wanted now to know.
“It means, be true, be loved, be bold, be messy, be impaired, be imperfect tangled night, and always love informed,
Embrace your fate, embrace, be one; connection, function, cherishing and complete.”
A radical life of verbs and places, people’s stand.
We shout, we listen so to unravel everyday
We peel, we share, we live, we gel and come undone together for we gain.
There will be no limitations,
Talk no divisions here,
There will be no room for rich or poor, equality walks where,
You will find broken jewels along this path, some diamond-clustered friends
Of wisdom and imperfect loves of fight for you until the end,
You will find the disaffected, the loyal and the just,
You will hear justice roll in stones of gravel underfoot.
You will see the sweaty thoughts of all, be dried and wiped away,
You will feed a life of limitless,
Your mind will wander far and stars will shine your dusty path
In moments of forsakenness,
And as the morning comes,
Flows, the new day will be here forever singing –
For your cause, their cause, our cause, will be as one –
An anthem for the radical sings with every day and dawn,
And so my friend come here with me,
You step, we walk as one, to radically change our path,
We keep our heads
and up we keep,
Squinted furrows to the sun.
We blister, burn and bubble,
When looking back we hear the past.
How we’ve come so far, in history books we gather.
Now as the present sings our voices and we laugh to live again,
As we walk towards our future,
Each day be you, be us, be radical,
Become…
Be voices, be their sound, be a lesson to the world,
Be never washed away, my friend,
Stand tall, be ever proud.
Be there, be here, be everywhere,
Be thought and hearts alight,
Be with me today, my road, and guide me to the light.
