Raw.
By Melody Rose Mammino
You know those raw vulnerable moments in life?
Maybe you are too raw to trust,
too raw to believe in anything…
But you hold on anyway.
You hold on to a tiny invisible string.
It’s you against the world,
or so it seems.
You can’t relate to anyone,
and no one can relate to you,
or so it seems,
at that pivotal moment.
Your heart searches deep
for something to hold on to.
Faces you used to take comfort in
have disappeared.
You hold onto a moment
that no longer exists.
Face to face with yourself.
It’s just you with you.
You think,
What’s my next move?
How do I even move?
I feel stuck.
I feel alone.
Dreams have dissipated
into the vastness of a forgetful wind.
Who am I?
You ask yourself.
Can anyone understand?
Am I alone in this?
You find what you are reaching for,
because you start to understand
that what you are reaching for
is the only thing that stands.
Your faith.
Your heart.
God.
These things are solid…
You begin to realize
that even in the desolate moments
of incompleteness and misunderstanding,
of yourself and everything around you,
this is what stands.
Everything inside of you has a standoff.
You look at yourself in the mirror
and you still don’t have the answers,
but you find that hand.
It’s God.
Your body trembles and shakes
as you come to the realization
that without God,
what else would you have?
And so you hold on.
You hold on to that.
You just hold on….

Melody is a wild flower, a rose… she has moments of epiphany, moments of prose…. but sometimes she just forgets… She is raw and exposed. A human. A rebel. She is… She just is. She’s just like you… trying to find her way through the mist and the fog — into something that is real.
