Bohemian of the month: Frida Kahlo.
Surrealist painter Frida Kahlo was born in Mexico on July 6, 1907. She is best known for her dramatic self-portraits, which incorporate symbolic portrayals of her physical, psychological and emotional wounds.
Her private life was tumultuous, and included a tragic accident at age 18 (that led to 32 operations and left her unable to have children) and two volatile marriages to the philandering Mexican muralist Diego Rivera, which led her to pursue affairs with people including Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky, sculptor Isamu Noguchi, dancer Josephine Baker, and actress Paulette Goddard.
Frida had Sun in creative Cancer and Moon in earthy Taurus, and she loved to paint, cook and garden. She also had a flamboyant Leo Ascendant, and every day she wore colorful traditional dress and jewelry with flowers in her hair, as if she was preparing for a fiesta.
Bohemian individuals always have Aquarius and/or Uranus feature strongly in their birth chart, and Frida had her Sun opposite Uranus (a rebellious nature), Mars conjunct Uranus in the 5th house (a fiery and unpredictable love life) plus Aquarius on her Descendant (an unconventional marriage). Since her death at age 47, her paintings have been celebrated internationally and she has also become a feminist icon.

Horoscopes for July
Aries (March 21-April 20)
Over the last two months, have you felt as if you’ve been walking through treacle, treading water, or even going backwards? Has your sexual mojo gone missing? Or has a major project backfired? Thankfully, your power planet Mars is finally moving forwards, and you’ll feel more positive, passionate and proactive about love, life and the Universe.
The New Moon (on July 4) signals a domestic reboot, so it’s a suitable time to renovate, move house, welcome a new housemate, or start afresh with a stressed relative, while the Full Moon (on July 19) is fabulous for work, travel and creativity.
Taurus (April 21-May 21)
The pace picks up in July, when the planets stimulate your communication and adventure zones. So it’s a good month to take a trip and extend your peer group as you trek and travel, mix and mingle, chat and converse. There are also some new people in your neighborhood who are waiting to meet you. So make sure you ricochet out of your usual routine, and get out and about in your local community.
Social media is particularly favored (especially around the New Moon on July 4) and you’ll find the more creative and targeted your approach is, the more positive the response will be.
Gemini (May 22-June 21)
Mercury (your boss planet) moves through your cash zone until July 14. So it’s a terrific time to improve your financial literacy through study, or via the mentorship of a business colleague who is smart and savvy with money. July 7 looks tricky though, when some Twins will become obsessed with a situation that keeps playing over and over in your head. Others will dig beneath the surface and get to the bottom of an old emotional issue.
Magic day of the month is July 19, when Mercury and the Full Moon motivate you to transform a fabulous abstract idea into robust reality.
Cancer (June 22-July 23)
Expect power-plays in close relationships around July 7-8. If you try to do too much, then you’ll just end up feeling super stressed. So pace yourself, Crabs, take things one step at a time, and try not to take offense when others make silly or insensitive remarks. Things pick up around July 10, when Jupiter sends a lucky break via social media or community connections. Activities involving communication, education and travel are also favored.
So, get networking, and make the most of any fortuitous opportunities that come your way. July 19-20 is marvelous for love, work and money.
Leo (July 24-Aug 23)
The super Sun/Neptune trine (on July 3) stimulates your imagination and increases your creative Cat juices. So, as Madonna (a fellow Leo) sings, it’s the perfect time to Express Yourself. Wonderful opportunities are certainly around in July, but they’re not immediately obvious. They are hidden in unexpected places, waiting for you to discover them. Lions love to be center stage but, at the moment, some of your best work is behind the scenes.
Others may not notice or appreciate what you are doing, but your efforts will be well-rewarded in the weeks and months to come.
Virgo (Aug 24-Sep 23)
Relations with a relative will be somewhat strained on July 7-8. They are looking for positive solutions, rather than criticism, however constructive it is. In July, Jupiter and Mars encourage you to stop worrying and start doing. Aim to be more proactive about appreciating and protecting your neighborhood and local environment. If you network with like-minded souls, then you can achieve a lot. Think global, act local!

Libra (Sep 24-Oct 23)
Mars is moving forward in your money zone, but don’t spoil future prospects by being rash with cash. Librans are clever and capable, but are you confident enough for big-time success? The New Moon’s in your career zone (on July 4) when colleagues will expect you to assume a leadership role. Then, Venus and Mars promise romance, friendship and fun around July 6 when you’re keen to socialize with work mates, as you mix business with pleasure.
Attached? July 19-20 is a good time to demonstrate your commitment to your partner and suggest making the relationship more permanent.
Scorpio (Oct 24-Nov 22)
Thank goodness Mars finally stops reversing through your sign, so switch off the Pause button, quit obsessing about missed opportunities, and start being proactive. Getting a complicated personal problem sorted out is a good place to start. But July 7-8 will be difficult days, when you’ll have a strong desire to persuade others to do what you want them to do. Just remember: the only person you can control is you.

Sagittarius (Nov 23-Dec 21)
Somber Saturn is reversing through your sign, which can make you feel as if you have the worries of the world on your Sagittarian shoulders. This month, take a step back and view your life from a much more positive and philosophical perspective. And, as action-planet Mars moves forward in your volunteer zone, think up some dynamic ways in which you can help those who are less fortunate — whether it’s locally, nationally or internationally.

Capricorn (Dec 22-Jan 20)
With peacemaker Venus (plus the Sun, Moon and Mercury) visiting your partnership zone, it’s a marvelous month to improve close relationships or smooth over problems with a cranky work colleague. There’s a temporary setback on July 7-8, when your words have the power to affect others deeply (positively or negatively) so use them wisely. As Jean-Paul Sartre reminds us, “Words are loaded pistols.”
You’ll find that the more you try to assert your authority, the more difficult things will be. You can’t be the boss all the time, so strive to be more democratic.
Aquarius (Jan 21-Feb 19)
Have you been struggling at work? Mighty Mars is finally moving forward in your career zone, so professional matters are set to improve. And you’ll find dealing with male colleagues, customers and clients in a dynamic way leads to positive and productive outcomes. On July 6, a combination of charm and chutzpah will get what you want, in the most delightful way. If you’re having money problems, then creative thinking could turn things around.
Joint ventures are particularly favored from July 12-31, when cash flow can be boosted via a more cooperative approach.
Pisces (Feb 20-March 20)
Dynamic Mars is finally moving forward, which increases your motivation and activates your adventurous side. So it’s time for Pisceans to take plenty of positive action, especially involving your creative talents. Don’t think you have any? Of course you do. As fellow Piscean Steve Jobs observed, “Creativity is just connecting things.”
It’s also the perfect month to enjoy a romantic interlude with your partner, fix a floundering friendship, or find a fabulous new love. But don’t sit around waiting for Cupid’s arrow to strike. Jupiter encourages you to be passionately proactive.
