A Gift in Every Experience: The Wake-Up Call That Changed My Life.
We all receive wake-up calls throughout our lives. These calls come to us in the form of events that change our lives dramatically.
For some, this may look like a health crisis, a car accident, or trauma of some form. My first wake-up call began with a divorce in my late twenties. Up until that moment, I was simply existing, living without passion, integrity, or self-respect. My divorce shattered me and brought to the surface years of suppressed emotion and beliefs. I could no longer hide from myself.
I allowed myself to move through this pain, but eventually came to a crossroads. I had a choice to make. I could continue to sit in feelings of depression and unworthiness, or I could transform my pain into light. I chose light, and began to sift through the pieces of my pain in order to re-create the life I wanted.
Wake-up calls shake up our entire foundation. My divorce not only shattered my dreams for the future, but also my finances, my home, my health, and relationships. I had to completely re-create myself, and that scared the hell out of me. It all began with one question, “Who am I now?”
So many of us hide behind our titles. Who are you without the job, the big house, the relationship, or a thousand friends on Facebook? Who are you really? It is natural to define ourselves according to our external environment. We believe that something outside of ourselves will bring us the peace or love we are looking for. This is an illusion. The answers you seek can only be found within.
Take some time to connect to your heart space and remember who you really are. There truly is no separation between yourself and Spirit. You are enough just by being you.
When crisis hits, our natural response is often fear. Fear separates us from our truth. We begin to feel alone, and that the world is not a safe place to be in. The way to overcome this is to understand that every life experience is here for your own personal growth and evolution. I like to see each experience as an initiation that will bring us closer to our purpose. This is a hard truth to swallow.
Looking back at my divorce, I can now see that it was one of the best things that could have happened to me. It opened me up to a lot of belief systems around love that were not serving me. By clearing these beliefs, I would be able to experience a deeper, greater love in the future. In order to fully heal and move on, it can be helpful to reflect on the soul lessons at play.
There is a gift in every experience. The sooner you can discover this, the sooner you can let go, forgive, and move on.
If you are reading this today, you are already connecting to a part of yourself that is seeking peace. These tools initiated my own path towards healing and liberation. The same tools are here for you today. When we take the time to look within, we have the ability to transform, heal, and create a new reality. There will always be ups and downs in life, that is a given. What we do with these experiences is up to us.
Know that you are not alone. I believe in you!
