Twin Flames and the Dark Moon.
“The moon herself does not change, her light does. What we earth beings see as phases of the moon are actually reflections of the moons’ changing relationship to the sun.” ~ Demetra George
Twin flames are our ultimate mirrors in life. We feel an inexplicable draw to them that seems to come from our core be-ing rather than a headspace. We feel like we can’t stay away from them, no matter how much frustration we are faced with.
We go through this journey in our own ways, at our own moments, and along the path we begin to shed away the ego-self and find that our old ways of living no longer seem to resonate. And if we are lucky, we come to recognize that this person has only been reflecting our relationship with ourselves the entire time, and we begin to see that we are the masculine and the feminine in one body.
We get to a place of balance and harmony within, which translates to our relationship with the world at large, and though we never stop loving our flame, we see that our meeting had more to do with our soul’s mission and changing the frequency of this planet than it ever had to do with the physical dimension that we are living in.
I am by no means perfect at this twin flame energy thing. And to be quite honest, the label twin flame is starting to annoy me a little. I see the need for it in a way, but at the same time it’s another label with more expectations to live up to than anything else. If we are being real here, we could just start calling it a strong soul connection… then again, even I recognize that description doesn’t carry as much weight.
But I digress.
I am far from perfect at this connection. In fact, I would venture to say that at times I’m not even necessarily good at it. I fall into the familiar traps of blame and judgment just as much as anyone else. And it always inevitably leads us to a physical separation that I am now choosing to call a Dark Moon phase.
If we think about the moon and the phases of fullness and waning it goes through, we can apply the same theory to our twin flame connection.
For instance, there are times where the union seems to be flourishing (the Full Moon phase) and other times when we go through a destruction or separation of sorts (the Dark Moon phase). It is in this death phase where we begin to cling tighter and try to hang on to what was rather than just letting the energy die. It’s okay, you’re human, and I feel as though fearing death is what we have been conditioned to do.
But I believe we can change this outlook. We can look at the death or separation or the Dark Moon phase as a time to retreat and heal in order to allow for transformation into the new. We can take the space we need, take the time we need, and turn inward. We can take the void and turn it into a creative pursuit, or begin to dream up how we would like our lives to look going forward.
Or we can simply sit in it and feel it and let it do what it needs to do.
I will admit that I have been blessed that my twin has never cut me off completely, even though we have both threatened that at times. I’m thankful he and I have both been willing to work toward harmony separately, but together. But it hasn’t been easy, and there are more Dark Moons than I can count on one or both hands (we both have big egos).
I used to hate the Dark Moon of our connection. I still do sometimes, especially after a really beautiful Full Moon or Super Moon! I would cling because I feared the death of it.
But isn’t that the nature of all of life? Birth-death-birth?
In her book, Mysteries of the Dark Moon, Demetra George says,
“The sun and moon are complimentary opposites. As the masculine principle embodied in the notion of God and the feminine principle as goddess, they are the polar manifestations of the same, primal, undifferentiated divine force. When these two polarities are periodically united, portrayed in the sacred marriage of the god and goddess, they create the mystical dimension known as One-ness, union and illumination and when separated, give birth to the divine child, also known as manifested life forms.”
In other words, let the Dark Moon serve your connection to give birth for manifesting a new life form. Take your healing and make something of it. Go more fully on a mission, and learn to embrace the ending of that cycle because that means something greater is about to be born.
And what is most important, try to remember that this journey is about your own internal moon and sun dance. That whatever this person is reflecting to you is an example of your relationship with yourself. Hold yourself in love, hold yourself in the unknown, and embrace the life that is being created in the darkness.
Honor the Dark Moon.
